Elephants
Elephants are large body mammal with a long trunk and two tusks. There are two main species of elephants as African and Asian. The African elephants are larger in size with about 4m to that of Asian who stands about 3m.
They spend almost 22 hours in eating and they are herbivorous animal who likes to eat grass, fruits, leaves, roots, and others. Elephants are found in different habitats including savannahs, forests, deserts and marshes and an be found around watering holes. Life span of elephants goes between 50-70 years. Their main habitats are rainforest and flood plains.
Elephants are the largest living terrestrial animals and can weigh up to 11,000 pounds. They have large ears with an elongated trunk or proboscis. The elongated trunk has many functions, including breathing, olfaction, touching, grasping item, and sound production, collection of food and water.
Elephants have two large tuskes which are modified teeth or incisors. They are used for digging for water, debarking or marking trees; and for moving trees and branches when clearing a path. When fighting, they are used to attack and defend, and to protect the trunk.
Socially male and female Elephants are different. The females spend their entire lives in family groups, the male spends time outside of the family group.
